Guilderland Library Notes for Thursday, March 26, 2015

Next time you’re at the Guilderland Public Library, you’ll notice that we’re a bit fired up about our latest line of eReaders, the Kindle Fire. And, you can take one of them home for two weeks to enjoy the latest in downloadable eBooks.

Kindle Fires are among the most popular eReaders on the market because they are so easy to use. That’s why we selected them. We’ve made the GPL Fires even better by preloading them with several popular titles. To make it easy to determine which Fire you want — each has a different array of eBooks — visit the Kindle Fire page on the library’s website; it’s located at www.guilpl.org/fire.

Once you find out which Fire you want, you can check it out as you would a print book. You might want to call ahead at 456-2400, ext. 2 to make sure the one you want is available.

Training program

Hurricane season starts in June — yes, we know, we’ve all just barely escaped winter — and it’s time to consider what to do if disaster strikes. That’s the idea behind the Prepare, Respond, Recover class being offered at GPL on Thursday, March 26, at 6 p.m.

A trained Red Cross representative will conduct an approximately one-hour session of the Citizen Preparedness Corps training program, which provides a comprehensive overview on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and man-made disasters. Please call 456-2400, ext. 2 to register.

Library budget

The library’s board of trustees will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m., for the purpose of approving the proposed 2015-16 library budget. The public is welcome to attend this meeting; it will be held in the library’s Tawasentha Room.

Details on the library’s proposed budget will be supplied in the library’s May – August newsletter, online in early April at www.guilpl.org., and on flyers in the library.

The library budget will go before the voters on Tuesday, May 19, as part of the election that will also choose two library trustees, board of education members, and the Guilderland Central School District budget.
