Find new friends, baked goods, and fun in Preston Hollow

PRESTON HOLLOW — The greenhouse on Route 145 will hold chrysanthemums and baked goods to bring people together at the Preston Hollow Beautification Committee’s annual fundraiser on Sept. 26 and 27.

The sale will have mums of different sizes and colors, pumpkins, and cornstalks, as well as home-baked treats. The greenhouse will be open until 6 p.m. on both days, starting at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of chit-chatting going on. It’s kind of a nice event,” said Colleen Lettieri, the committee’s chairwoman who joined the group after talking to members at a similar sale for Mother’s Day. “Everybody seemed very friendly and nice,” she said.

The committee welcomes donated baked goods and new members. Those who want to join should come to the sale or speak to Lettieri at 239-6251.

The group, which designs and prepares seasonal decorations for the hamlet, is just a few years old and has around 10 members, some of whom are from other hamlets, Lettieri said. It has installed welcome signs for four of the five hamlets in the town of Rensselaerville, with original artwork by Cynthia Willis.

For the fall, the committee will decorate utility poles along Route 145 with pumpkins, cornstalks, and scarecrows. It hangs wreaths throughout the hamlet during Christmastime and flowers along the road in warmer weather.

“We do anything that we can to help the community look pretty, basically,” said Lettieri.
