GCSD holds budget forum

GUILDERLAND — On Wednesday, Feb. 4, the school district will host a community conversation to take a close look at the district’s budget development process and to review a list of all potential changes to the district’s spending plan under consideration for 2015-16.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school’s large-group instruction room and is open to all district residents and school community members.

Since late October, school and district leaders have been reviewing the current status of programs and staffing at all levels and developing budget recommendations for the upcoming school year based on enrollment projections and an analysis of student needs. The event on Feb. 4 will be the community’s first opportunity to provide input and comments on the recommendations before any final decisions are made.

The community conversation will begin with an overview of the current conditions shaping the budget and programmatic changes that must be considered. Attendees, in small groups, will then rotate through different budget "stations" to meet with school leaders and ask direct questions regarding proposed changes. A reporting-out session will conclude the program.

Those who plan to attend should let the district know no later than Feb. 2, either by phone at 456-6200, ext. 3102 or by going online to the district website at www.guilderlandschools.org.
