GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland YMCA provides after-school programs at the following Guilderland School District elementary schools: Guilderland, Pine Bush, and Westmere as well as at the Guilderland YMCA.

Making old-fashioned hats will be one of the crafts for this year’s Fall Festival on Sept. 28 at John Boyd Thacher State Park.

The Depot Lane Singers, a community chorus based in Schoharie, is looking for singers to join the chorus for its winter concert on Saturday, Dec. 7. 

BETHLEHEM — The Delmar Community Orchestra, a Bethlehem tradition for over 70 years, will begin its 2013 fall season rehearsals on Monday, Sept. 16, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Town Hall auditorium at 445 Delaware Ave., in Delmar. 

After the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863, an unidentified, dead Union soldier was found with an ambrotype photograph in his hands, with the images of three young children.  This image was the last image he saw before he died of his wounds.

Beginning its second century of song this fall in Schenectady, The Thursday Musical Club Women's Chorus is seeking female singers to prepare for its 101st Winter Concert on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy invites the public to come, hike, and enjoy the last bit of summer at its Normans Kill West Preserve this Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.

— On Tuesday, Sept. 3 from noon to 6 p.m., at the University at Albany Indian Quad in the Oneida basement, 1400 Washington Ave., Albany;

The Annual Fall Fish Pond Stocking Program at the Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District for private pond owners is underway.

Species available include rainbow trout, brook trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and minnow. 

The fourth annual Festival of Writers, Aug. 15 to 18, will bring together artists with international reputations and a love for the region.

The Capital District Youth Chorale, now entering its fourth decade, is accepting appointments for new member auditions. The singers will rehearse at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland.

The Albany Jewish Community Center offers a series of six Laughter Yoga classes, open to the community and held in the Albany JCC’s Massry Senior Center at 340 Whitehall Road.

The hour-long sessions will be held on Tuesdays, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 and Nov. 5. 

ALTAMONT — Musicians will perform during Altamont Reformed Church’s neighborhood ice-cream social celebrating 125 years on Lincoln Avenue.

Free ice cream sundaes will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

A documentary filmmaker is seeking information and opinions about events, stories, artifacts, and family connections for possible inclusion in his project about the Anti-Rent War.
