Enjoy a community Thanksgiving at the Voorheesville Legion Hall

To the Editor:

Again this year, American Legion Post 1493 will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. Nov. 22, at the Legion Hall from noon to 4 p.m.

This buffet-style dinner will be open to all, free of charge. A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the local food pantries, but it is not required.

This dinner is not jut for low-income families or people in need. It is a community holiday meal for everyone. Please come and enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors and have a good time!

The idea for the dinner was suggested as a way to reach out to those in need, the many single people in our area, and couples far from families. It has become a community feast for all and anyone who would like to share the traditions and joys of the holiday with others.

Our menu includes turkey, ham, sweet and white potatoes with gravy, dressing, vegetables, beverages, and dessert. We usually dish up more than 350 meals. Sit-down dinners are served at the Legion Hall or are available for take-out.

Post and Auxiliary members and others volunteer their time and talents to see that this idea becomes a reality every year. We appreciate the tremendous response we have received from everyone we have approached to assist with the dinner.

Although we have commitments of time, talent, and food, we are still in further need of financial assistance to help defray the cost of this dinner. We are reaching out to you with the hope that you will support our efforts as well, with food or monetary contributions.

For food donations, contact Chaplin Charlie Renker Jr. at 765-4359, or send checks made payable to American Legion Post #1493 to Post Office Box 72, 31 Voorheesville Ave., Voorheesville, NY 12186.

Thank you for all you do — in the past and for the future! Please join us and enjoy this day with your neighbors and friends.

Charles Renker Jr., Commander
