Antiques show features quilting and rug-hooking demonstrations

Over 100 dealers are expected for the Antiques in Schoharie 39th annual fall show, which will be held at the Schoharie Valley railroad complex on Depot Land in the village on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lunch will be for sale, including homemade pies, cakes, brownies, and cookies plus chili, soup, and sandwiches made to order.

This year, the "Always on Wednesday Rug Hookers" will demonstrate the art of hooking and will have their works exhibited.  In addition, the Schoharie Valley Piecemakers' Guild and Peaceable Day Quilters Guild will also show quilting techniques as well as some of their handmade quilts. These will be on exhibit on the second floor of the Depot Lane Creamery Building.

Following in the tradition of Colonial women, the Schoharie County Quilt Barn Trail is encouraging residents of the county to air their quilts, displaying them outside on clotheslines, porches, wherever they wish. There will be many quilts aired all day Saturday at the Fall Antiques Show with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 20. For more information on the Quilt Trail, visit www.quiltbarntrail.com.

The show is run by Schoharie Colonial Heritage Volunteers and is one of our largest fund raisers to support its ongoing activities, especially the 1743 Palatine House — the oldest building in Schoharie County — and the Schoharie Valley Railroad Museum.  For more information about Colonial Heritage Association, go to SchoharieHeritage.org.  Membership is open to all.
