Come! Join the fun at Summerfest on Saturday

To the Editor:

The soft buzz of insects is always a sure sign that summer is winding down.  There are just a few more weeks before school starts and our kids take on the challenges of a new teacher and acquiring a new set of skills.

It’s time to celebrate the start of the school year, and a summer filled with lazy days, fireflies, and bare feet on cool grass.

This year’s Summerfest provides the perfect opportunity to do just that.  It is a fun-filled day of activity, music, and good food capped by an explosive fireworks display that will surely impress.

Once again, we have the good fortune to have five bands — Nite Train, The Hilltown Ramblers,  A Bunch of Guys, Red-Haired Strangers, and  Hawbuckees — that will play from 1 p.m. until the fireworks.

A jam session for anyone who wants to join in will be held immediately after the fireworks.  Grab your guitar, banjo, or ukulele and come on along for the fun.

Juggling Dangerously will put on two shows for not only our kids, but for adults as well. Mike McCrea’s stunts will amaze and delight all who watch.  And, be sure to visit the reptile exhibit in the kids’ tent.  It will be on hand all day for the curious and those with a scientific bent of mind.

New this year is a Horseshoe Tournament.  Thirty teams will vie for a cash prize.  You may preregister by contacting Britta Lovegrove at 872-1278, or you may register on the day of the event.  Come, try out our new courts, or simply enjoy watching as others test their skills.

The climbing wall will be back again this year. The highlight of last year’s festival, it will be on hand for all those willing to scale its heights.  Lines formed as the daring waited their turn to try last year; you’ll want to save your spot this year!

From the Giant Connect 4, to the barbecue by Elegant Touch, there is something for everyone at this year’s Summerfest. Come! Join the fun. We’ll hope to see you there!
