Volunteers support emergency communications tower

These volunteer firefighters were among the 50 who attended the May 12 Rensselaerville Town Board meeting in support of the planned emergency communications tower on Edwards Hill.

To the Editor:

On May 12, fifty volunteer firefighters from the townships of Coeymans Hollow, East Berne, Knox, Medusa, New Salem, Onesquethaw, Rensselaerville, Voorheesville, and Westerlo attended Rensselaerville’s regular town board meeting to show their support for the construction of our emergency communications tower on Edwards Hill.

They are aware of the lawsuit that has been filed against the sheriff, the Rensselaerville Planning Board, and the owners of the property where the tower would stand and wanted to impress upon everyone in the town just how important this tower is and to thank the town board members for their continuing support of the proposed tower construction.

This construction proposal has caused much tension among the citizens of our township.   Let’s follow the goodwill of so many volunteers from our neighboring towns and let the construction of our tower continue without further opposition.

After a three-year study, communications engineers chose the best site available according to the specifications needed. Our views are fantastic and still will be even with the addition of one tower.  We can all enjoy beautiful views and have our emergency service.
