Proud to be an American

Richard Brumley, who served in the Air force, Army, and Navy, is the chaplain for the American Legion in Altamont. He sent a letter to John Prastio, who now lives in Arizona, having heard he was under the weather.

Brumley received this letter in return; the Legion members were impressed with it and wanted him to share it with Enterprise readers.

Chaplain Richard Brumley,

I want to thank you for your kind words and prayers; I also thank Pat Walters for his kind thoughts.

I feel the ones who deserve your prayers are the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice, through the generations before myself and to the present day. This is what Americans are and it makes me proud to say I am American.

Americans have always stood for freedom and justice, and give their generosity, and kindness around the world.

Recently I watched a news report about a group of schoolchildren from North Carolina. The students visited The Freedom Towers, they were so awed by the events, and asked their teacher if they could sing the National Anthem. She said yes. About halfway through, a security guard stopped them and said they needed a permit to sing our anthem. What has this country become? This attitude is becoming the norm.

I think it’s time to stand up, and honor our legacy and sacrifices that our forefathers have given us and the freedom we enjoy. We are Americans.

I will never suppress my God, country, or citizenship.

God bless America. God bless you and your post.
