Leave Smitty’s and Mobil alone, they are part of our Voorheesville family

To the Editor:

After reading Janice Relyea’s comments on Stewart’s and Smith’s Tavern, I feel compelled to add some of my feelings. I agree with everything Janis said. I have additional concerns about the safety of our children who walk to school or ride their bikes; it could be very dangerous.

Kids are riding their bikes and skateboards up and down Maple Avenue all the time. Families walk their dogs and push strollers on those sidewalks.

Stewart’s is a very busy place and I see people pulling in and out of the parking lot in the village as fast as they can because they are in hurry to pick up something quick and be on their way. I have seen them drive past stopped school buses in front of Stewart’s because they are in a hurry.

There have been many fender benders as it is at their present location. Thank God no children were involved.  Do we want to take a chance to have someone hit one of our children now?  It is way too close to the elementary school.

We have such a wonderful little village and we don't need a Stewart’s especially by the elementary school where all of our precious children are coming and going.

I also agree with what Janis said about our friends at Mobil. They care about our children and tell customers that the kids are out of school so be mindful of that when pulling in and out.

I feel our community should get behind supporting no Stewart’s at the corner of Altamont Road and Maple Avenue.  Leave Smitty’s and Mobil alone; they are part of our Voorheesville family!
